Longevity

"Aging is characterized by a progressive loss of physiological integrity, leading to impaired function and increased vulnerability to death," wrote the authors of an influential 2013 paper describing what they termed the "hallmarks of aging? They continued: "This deterioration is the primary risk factor for major human pathologies, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases." There is no longevity or healthspan without muscle and bone strength. Age related muscle loss (sarcopenia) and osteoporosis drive loss of function, decreased mobility, falls and cognitive decline. Preservation of muscle and bone strength is an absolute pre-requisite for healthy aging! For this reason, our program begins with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy which is scientifically proven to preserve bone strength, muscle mass and muscle strength.

Once established on bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, our program does not stop there! Our coaching will guide your wellness journey to stave off the “Four Horsemen” that directly cause the greatest loss of quality life as we age. These “Four Horsemen” are atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and dementia. At the core of our coaching program is reversing insulin resistance which directly and causally contributes to the onset of each of these disease processes. As we work with you over the next many months and years, the tools in our toolbox include hormone therapy, nutritional optimization, evidence-based physical activity, motivational coaching and, when required, medications including Ozempic and thyroid hormone. Ozempic is popular but there needs to be caution. One third of the weight loss on Ozempic is muscle mass which sacrifices longevity for short-term weight reduction. For clients who seek weight loss, we marry Ozempic with testosterone to protect muscle mass as you lose weight.

Through your quarterly blood testing, the optimization of your metabolism will be directly measurable and continuously monitored. We will also recommend some technology aids that will further demonstrate your ongoing progress. At the same time, we will be mindful of your personal time and budget constraints and design a program that is tailored specifically to your needs.

To better understand insulin resistance and why reversing insulin resistance is core value in our longevity program, we highly recommend watching the following podcast with Dr. Ben Birman.

Another excellent resource to better understand the “Four Horsemen” of chronic disease, is the following book entitled Outlive by Dr. Peter Attia:
